Anniversaries 2025 & 2026
The idea that the High Coast and Kvarken Archipelago should seek a World Heritage nomination was born in the 1990s. The High Coast got the World Heritage status in 2000 and was expanded with the Kvarken Archipelago in 2006. The reason for appointing the High Coast and Kvarken Archipelago a World heritage, is the unique geology, the traces of the latest ice age and the land uplift after that.
The World Heritage is not only a geologically unique area, but also an important place for many people and different activities. The World Heritage Site is all our heritage, humankinds’ heritage, regardless of national borders and who is managing it. And 2025 and 2026 are years to celebrate, first the High Coast 25th anniversary and in 2026 the Kvarken Archipelagos 20th anniversary.
